Deuteronomy 29:18 If there is such a person, when he hears the words of this curse, he will bless himself secretly, saying to himself, ‘I will be all right, even though I will stubbornly keep doing whatever I feel like doing; so that I, although “dry,” [sinful,] will be added to the “watered” [righteous].’
Here we have the watered as the righteous and the dry as the unrighteous -- or sinner.
So what is this man saying?
“Well, I hear what you say about those curses but MY God would never do that to someone He loves. And I know for a fact that I am loved. Which means I am ok. There is no evidence of these curses in my life. All of my troubles come from the Enemy.
“And for those things where I mess up, well, I am only human. And since I’m human I’m clearly allowed to make mistakes. Besides, God hasn’t struck me down or anything, right. He knows I’m trying to live a good life and He’s ‘working on me’ in a few areas even now.”
So this man reasons in his heart, “Of course I’m a fallible and sinful person. Aren’t we all? So there is no way God would come and wipe us all out. There would be no one left! Also, have you seen the guy I work for? You talk about being wicked. They don't know God at all so it’s super-obvious I’m better off than them. In fact, I can be a light for them in this desperate and dry world. If they are that dry, it is clear that I must have water within me -- which means I am among the watered.”
Circumstances are a poor indicator of righteousness or unrighteousness.
Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that our fathers were told, ‘Love your neighbor — and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 Then you will become children of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun shine on good and bad people alike, and he sends rain to the righteous and the unrighteous alike. 46 What reward do you get if you love only those who love you? Why, even tax-collectors do that! 47 And if you are friendly only to your friends, are you doing anything out of the ordinary? Even the Goyim do that! 48 Therefore, be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Relativism is a dangerous mistress.
Someone being worse doesn’t make you better. Comparative living only fuels confusion in your own life and plants seeds of judgment.
Now in this judgment, when we don’t see judgment come upon those that clearly deserve it so we become angry and bitter that they are allowed to exist.
But judgment should come upon you too, right? In fact, it comes to the House of God first.
Be grateful His judgment has not yet come. Even if you are among the watered!
What did Abraham do when confronted with this very same issue?
He interceded on behalf of those that were destined to die. Even though they deserved death, he asked Abba to withhold his judgment for the sake of the righteous.
Sodom and Gomorrah had pushed to the limits their right to exist. Judgment had been decided.
And Abraham interceded anyway. Even after knowing the type of people that were in Sodom (see: Genesis 14:21-24).
Think about this. Evil, wicked, and perverted people were going to be protected by one man’s intercession.
These same people even despised Lot, the one man’s family that could have saved them:
Genesis 19:9 “...This guy came to live here, and now he’s decided to play judge. For that we’ll deal worse with you than with them!”
We should operate like Abraham.
It is critical to keep in mind, however, that Abraham was not speaking up for the unrighteous. He did not justify their sin and ask for mercy on them. He sought mercy for the righteous that were among the unrighteous.
Even though these people hated righteousness, their lives could have been spared because of it.
If only there were 10.
Once your line reaches the point of no return (or perhaps no intercession), it will be eliminated from under heaven:
Deuteronomy 29:19 But YHVH will not forgive him. Rather, the anger and jealousy of YHVH will blaze up against that person. Every curse written in this book will be upon him. YHVH will blot out his name from under heaven.
Deuteronomy 29:21 “When the next generation, your children who will grow up after you, and the foreigner who arrives from a distant land, see the plagues of that land and the diseases with which YHVH has made it sick, 22 and that the whole land has become burning sulfur and salt, that it isn’t being sown or bearing crops or even producing grass — like the overthrow of S’dom, ‘Amora, Admah and Tzvoyim, which YHVH overthrew in his furious anger — 23 then all the nations will ask, ‘Why did YHVH do this to this land? What is the meaning of such frenzied, furious anger?’ 24 People will answer, ‘It’s because they abandoned the covenant of YHVH, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt. 25 They went and served other gods, prostrating themselves before them, gods they had not known and which he had not assigned them. 26 For this reason, the anger of YHVH blazed up against this land and brought upon it every curse written in this book; 27 and YHVH, in anger, fury and incensed with indignation, uprooted them from their land and threw them out into another land — as it is today.’
When you look back through your family line do you see a barren land that was consumed by burning sulfur and salt?
If so, how hard has it been to till the ground in your own life?
The brokenness that exists in your line could make things very difficult for you. This is the generational curse.
You can choose to stay under that or walk away. The choice is yours.
When your children look at you, will they see the burning sulfur and salt, with no crops coming forth in their season? Or will they live in a well-watered land?
This is critical to consider. Standing with a hose in a land that has sulfur and fire raining down will be of no use.
You must let the Living Water flow freely in your life.
From where does this “living water” come?
John 7:37 Now on the last day of the festival, Hoshana Rabbah, Yeshua stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him keep coming to me and drinking! 38 Whoever puts his trust in me, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water will flow from his inmost being!” 39 (Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who trusted in him were to receive later — the Spirit had not yet been given, because Yeshua had not yet been glorified.)
There are two choices set before you:
Blessing or curse. The choice is yours.
But whatever you do, do not secretly say to yourself, “I will be all right, even though I am doing whatever I feel like doing. I, I will be among the watered even though I am dry.”
If you do…
Deuteronomy 29:19 But YHVH will not forgive him. Rather, the anger and jealousy of YHVH will blaze up against that person. Every curse written in this book will be upon him. YHVH will blot out his name from under heaven.
So tell us all about your life.
Is water flowing from you or to you? When faced with a challenge, do you intercede for others or seek intercession for yourself?
Can you look Yeshua in the face and say, “I am taking what you have given me, and I am letting it flow out into your Creation”?
Or do you ask Him to let things flow towards you instead?
We seek “blessing” that flows to us if we are among the cursed, but is the “blessing” that flows from us that shows we are blessed.
Want to know whether you are under a blessing or curse? Look no further than your prayers.
If you are the target recipient, you are under a curse.
If someone else is the target, you are under a blessing.
Be warned though, this isn’t praying for others so your life gets better. That ultimately makes you the target.
Now you know one of the primary reasons you are here on this earth: to emulate Abraham. To be like the Messiah.
Let go of all of the judgment and self-justification. Lay yourself bare before Him -- FULLY. Do not hold onto anything.
Ask Abba to please come fill that place where the fear has dwelt for so long.
Let the Living Water flow gushingly into everyone you encounter. Forget yourself. Push yourself down to the lowest position in the earth.
Become a servant of all.
Then perhaps you will be among the watered.
