Numbers 13:2 “Send men on your behalf to reconnoiter the land of Kena‘an, which I am giving to the people of Isra’el. From each ancestral tribe send someone who is a leader in his tribe.”
Leaders.
They were to select leaders.
Leaders are individuals that take people to a better place or position: “There ARE obstacles there but I know you have it within you to gain victory anyway.”
2 of the 12 were true leaders -- the remaining 10 were killed by a plague.
Numbers 14:36 The men whom Moshe had sent to reconnoiter the land and who, when they returned, made the entire community complain against him by giving an unfavorable report about the land — 37 those men who gave the unfavorable report about the land died by the plague in the presence of YHVH. 38 Of the men who went to reconnoiter the land, only Y’hoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Y’funeh remained alive.
Joshua and Caleb also saw the giants. But their trust in Abba's promises carried much more weight than what they were seeing with their eyes. The fruit was more impressive than the threat of giants.
The potential gain was greater than their fear of loss.
More importantly, they KNEW Abba was with them.
So it did not matter that the giants were there. They knew that what they were looking at was their inheritance. And they were going after it no matter the cost.
How about you? What do you believe? Who do you follow?
5 of 6 influential people (leaders) in your life will give you an unfavorable report and provide all of the reasons/evidence why that report is correct.
It takes wisdom to detect this and the courage to walk in the face of it.
What kind of leader are you?
Think very carefully about this.
Your inheritance or a plague is in the balance -- the choice is yours.
